HSCP Ignite

What is HSCP Ignite?

Holy Spirit Catholic Parishes Ignite is our plan for evangelization formation in our parish family. It is an outgrowth of the previous School of Mission program, fulfilling the need for going deeper in prayer as the sustenance for growing a culture of evangelization in our family of parishes. Small groups support the mission of evangelization where each person is uniquely gifted and called.

PRAYER + EVANGELIZATION

The name comes from the image of fire used throughout the Scriptures for God’s intense love for us. In particular as an image of the descent of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost, from whom our parish family has taken patronage. (cf. Genesis 15:17, Exodus 3:2, Exodus 13:21-22, 1 Kings 18:38, Luke 12:49, Acts 2:3-4)

Sign-Up for the Spring 2025 Ignite Workshop February 22, 2025. The Spring 2025 Ignite Workshop has both prayer and evangelization modules. The prayer module will expand the topic of Discernment of Spirits, which are currently being discussed in the Sunday Sparks, giving greater time to reflect and apply these principles, including how discernment supports evangelization. The evangelization module will consider practical techniques for forming and leading a small group, focusing on personal invitation and intercessory prayer, in anticipation of Live Lent Together.

Who is HSCP Ignite for?

The primary audience of evangelization formation is missionary and fruitful disciples (or those who desire to be missionary and fruitful disciples).

  • These include: Past School of Mission participants, small group participants, CEC graduates, Adult and Junior Counselors of Youth Retreats

The secondary audience is beginning disciples. Beginning disciples are most likely to come to a Sunday Spark when invited, but are certainly welcome to come to all three parts.

Evangelization formation is designed for those further along the Thresholds of Discipleship (Missionary, Fruitful, & Beginning Disciples), but ultimately exists for the good of those in the early stages of the Thresholds of Conversion (Trust, Openness, Seeking).

What are Sunday Sparks?

Sunday Sparks are regular consistent prayer formation in a short format (~10 min) after Sunday Mass bi-weekly. Ignite workshops occur twice a year, but growth in prayer must be daily. Sparks are a source of continual heat for our flame - like bellows adding air to embers - to help us remain consistent in our prayer. They give a language to think and speak about prayer based on the spiritual traditions of the Church, and provide an opportunity for fellowship, sharing, and support.

Sunday Sparks are not just a “second homily” in the following ways:

  • Sparks are organized week after week to give a more complete formation in prayer, rather than unrelated individual homilies. In that sense Sparks are more like an ongoing homily series. Unlike homilies which over time should address every aspect of the faith (Creed, Sacraments, Morality, Prayer), Sparks are focused only on prayer. While Spark topics do build upon each other, any individual Spark will provide valuable insight into prayer even to an individual not able to attend previous Sparks.
  • Sparks allow for discussion and practice in the immediate moment following the presentation. Short handouts or reflection questions (depending upon the topic) are given to further discussion. Some topics will easily lend to their practice at that moment. (The nature of homilies, being in the middle of Mass, do not allow their listeners to talk to each other about the homily, nor give time to process or consider putting it into practice since the Mass continues on quickly after that.)
  • Sparks allow for questions to be gathered, answered either by table leaders or gathered for Father for explanation at a subsequent Spark. (Questions one may have during a homily may be forgotten by the time Mass is complete or never asked since response time is not built into the Mass format.)

Sunday Sparks dates and locations can be seen on the Mass Calendar.  Below are the Sparks dates grouped by parish location. No sign-up is needed to attend the Sunday Sparks.
