Education

Holy Spirit Catholic Parishes is particularly committed to Catholic Education

Holy Spirit Catholic Parishes is committed to Catholic education, especially children and teens—as Christ commanded us: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20a).

Within our seven parish family there are two Catholic elementary schools:

  • Holy Trinity, Hartington
  • St. Mary, Osmond

Both elementary schools have preschool programs.  Holy Trinity also has a child care program.

There is also one central Catholic high school supported by six parishes in the area.

  • Cedar Catholic Jr. - Sr. High School

We have six religious education programs across our seven parish family.

  • Holy Trinity / St. Michael in Hartington
  • St. Jane Frances, Randolph
  • St. Mary, Osmond
  • St. Paul, Plainview
  • St. Joseph, Ponca
  • St. Peter, Newcastle

Separate programs remain necessary due to the distances across our family of parishes.  We are implementing a common curriculum and common events called God Nights.

Holy Trinity Elementary School

Founded in Hartington, Nebraska, in 1901, Holy Trinity Elementary School has the following mission: "Rooted in faith and growing in compassion, Holy Trinity Catholic Elementary strives to form leaders who are disciples of Christ through academic excellence, social growth, and spiritual traditions."

All children—parishioners and non-parishioners, Catholics and non-Catholics alike—are welcome to enroll in our school for their K-6 education. If you are interested in a tour of our facilities or would like to learn more about our school, please contact the principal, Mrs Stacy Uttecht, by calling the school office at 402-254-6496.

Enrollment for the current school year is 151 students in grades K-6, with an average class size of about 21 students.

Holy Trinity Preschool

In addition to its elementary school program, Holy Trinity is pleased to offer a first-class preschool education with a certified teacher in its own building at its newly renovated site at 203 S. Capitol in Hartington.

The preschool has as its mission to prepare young children to participate successfully in formal schooling. Parents and teachers work cooperatively to assist them in developing positive self-concepts. The uniqueness of each child is the foundation for developing the Christian attitudes of loving, helping, sharing, and developing a relationship with God.

Holy Trinity Preschool offers two program levels: Junior Kindergarten and Preschool. Our Junior Kindergarten is a five-day afternoon program intended to prepare children for entry into kindergarten the following year. Our Preschool program is a three-day morning program intended to introduce children to learning in a classroom setting.

If you are interested in a tour of our facilities or would like to learn more about our preschool, please contact the principal, Mrs. Stacy Uttecht, at the school office by calling 402-254-6496.

St. Mary's Elementary School

Founded in Osmond, Nebraska, in 1906, St. Mary's Catholic Elementary School offers a faith-based Catholic education.

St. Mary's offers 3 year old Preschool through 8th Grade. The students attend weekday Mass twice a week.

If you are interested in a tour of our facilities or would like to learn more about our school, please contact the head teacher, Mrs. Cindy Beacom, by calling the school office at 402-748-3433.

Cedar Catholic Jr.-Sr. High School

Holy Trinity is one of six parishes in the area that support our local Catholic high school. Formerly Holy Trinity High School, Cedar Catholic now serves the Catholic faithful across Cedar County and beyond.

Religious Education Programs

The Catholic Church understands that the education of children, especially with regard to matters of faith, belongs first and foremost to parents. Holy Spirit Catholic Parishes is committed to assisting parents in this responsibility by providing Religious Education Programs and Youth Ministry Programs apart from our Catholic schools for all children in grades K-12.  With the wide distances across our seven parishes multiple locations of religious education exist.

  • Holy Trinity / St. Michael in Hartington
  • St. Jane Frances, Randolph
  • St. Mary, Osmond
  • St. Paul, Plainview
  • St. Joseph, Ponca
  • St. Peter, Newcastle

Work is being done to coordinate curriculum and have some common events.  Follow the link below for detailed information about each of these programs.
